BeRugby hits the road!

Like most people we are not fans of sitting in stuffy offices when there is a whole world out there. So we try to get out on the road as much as we can and we have already been to some great clubs!

Check out where we have been below. If you want to help cure our travel bug, then get in contact about a visit to your club’s minis and juniors sections!

Old Emanuel RFC

Blagdons Sports Ground Beverley Way New Malden Surrey KT3 4PU

A club with great ambition fielding sides from U5/6s all the way up to 3 senior sides and a vet’s side. They are also an O2 touch centre and have 3 girl’s teams. We were treated to a bacon sandwich and a hot cup of tea on arrival (bribery is always welcome). Most of the Minis and Juniors were training and there was a great buzz on the pitches that were overlooked by the clubhouse. The previous Friday they had run a “Friday night lights” session which looked like great fun and they also had big plans for a fireworks night. This really is a busy, community focused club!

We were fortunate enough to be invited to Trojans RFC’s Juniors festival and what a great day it was. There were teams from all over Hampshire alongside rugby stalls, food stalls and a cake stand who provided us with tasty treats! I can see a theme building here. Another amazingly friendly club who looked after us despite the obvious logistical efforts being put in to run the tournament smoothly. The clubs itself has 4 senior men’s sides, full mini’s and junior’s sections, three girl’s teams and two ladies’ teams. Wow!

The sunshine came out for lovely trip to Warlingham RFC for their minis/junior’s festival. All the teams looked to be having great fun courtesy of the “Mighty Warl” hospitality and also their huge metre long hot dogs. Maybe a slight exaggeration?  We enjoyed chatting to so many enthusiastic future rugby stars here and the rugby passion was obvious to see. We can see why the Warls are so mighty. Not only do they have a full minis and juniors section, five senior men’s sides and five girls/ladies’ sides. They also have a men’s 7s team, a ladies 7s team and touch rugby.

Gravesend kindly invited us down for their minis and juniors training one Sunday. When we arrived it seemed like a full blown festival! There were kids as far as the eye could see throwing rugby balls around and then we were told there were more on two pitches around the corner! Really great to see so many enjoying rugby. Obviously a club with a strong minis and juniors section they also have six senior men’s teams. Gravesend are also one of the few clubs to have a wheelchair team, called Gravesend Dynamite who we would love to go and watch one day.
